My husband and I recently had the immense pleasure + privilege to spend a few nights at Dunya Camp, a luxury safari-style tented camp in Northwest Georgia... words just do not do the property or our experience justice, but I'm going to do my best to find the right ones to offer an absolute well-deserved and raving review.
Located in Summerville, Dunya Camp is less than two hours from Atlanta (depending on the time of day you leave, of course) but you feel a world away thanks to the lush forest and rolling foothills of the Appalachians! So much so, I kept half-expecting a giraffe to stroll by as we admired the scenery. Winding up through endearing towns and beautiful country roads, it was a charming change to see small vintage shops with names like DIRT and Junk in the Trunk as well as fields with grazing cows and goats. (Did I pullover to say hi to the goats? Totes. Did we have to stop while a family of deer crossed the road? Yes. Who else turns into a joyful 6 year-old when you see deer? The same is true for dolphins. Ok, going down a rabbit-hole here, I digress.) But what strikes you most about pulling up to your luxury safari tent is how quiet and peaceful it is... as you breathe in the fresh air, you can hear birds and crickets chirping while the breeze rustles though the pine trees, not sounds you often enjoy in the city.
Taking the initial tour of our luxury tent left us dazzled and dumbfounded. Of course we had marveled over pictures online, but seeing it in person is a whole different story! On top of being welcomed with a hand-written note from your warm and gracious hosts (as well as treats that I'll touch on later) we were in awe over the decks adorned with bright blooming flowers, eclectic decorations, modern gold fixtures, top-of-the-line appliances, the versatility of the tent allowing you the option of having it totally open to the vast views or completely closed for privacy... but nothing could've prepared us for the stunning view of the sun setting over the trees thanks to the west-facing deck! (Each safari tent is positioned to prioritize these brilliant sunsets. They are also spaced out far enough that you never feel like your seclusion is being jeopardized, but close enough for get togethers if you rented multiple tents with other couples, for example.)
Other amenities included an adorable kitchen stocked with everything you'll need to prepare tasty al fresco meals, a state of the art grill, both an indoor + outdoor shower (my husband took a sunset shower everyday we were there), a hot-tub, perfect for idyllic evenings next to a flickering fire in the outdoor smokeless firepit, (there's also an indoor wood burning fireplace), a barrel-sauna, a window-unit A/C + another right above the bed (let me just say, I like to sleep with it freezing and I was not disappointed), fans strategically spread throughout, two of the plushest, softest robes I've ever felt, heavenly toiletries, a spacious claw-foot tub for dreamy bubble-baths, a wonderfully cloud-like king-sized bed... honestly? They thought of every. single. thing. for optimal comfort and relaxation! If you're looking for a rejuvenating and romantic stay, you've found it in divine Dunya Camp.
One of the best parts of our stay was the magic in every part of the day: cool mornings with birds chirping while you sip coffee (in your buttery robe) and admire the view, afternoons with electric blue skies, perfect for games, music, and cocktails, evenings with dreamy golden hour photo ops and a glass of wine while you grill dinner, magnificent sunsets + all the lanterns becoming aglow as dusk sets in, and the sky lit up with stars sparkling as far as you can see as night envelopes your little slice of heaven (another thing we don't see much of in the light-polluted city sky. I would say I enjoyed identifying constellations, but that would be misleading as all I can ever find is the Big Dipper). The gourmet s'mores board and dessert wine that were part of our welcome made our evening even more intoxicating. I mean, I'm serious when I say those were the most delicious marshmallows in America and the red velvet chocolate was a revelation. While we visited in late June, it would be a delight to go back when it's colder to bask in the sensation of other seasons.
In the spirit of your hosts not forgetting a single detail, you receive a guidebook full of information on your safari tent and all its inclusions as well as advice on nearby attractions like lovely little towns, restaurants, and hiking trails upon booking IF you find yourself wanting to venture out... but you could easily fill your time in the lap of luxury that is Dunya Camp. We left feeling refreshed, enchanted, and were already searching for future availability before we were even back on the main road! It was without a doubt one of the most unique and amazing places I have ever stayed and I cannot wait to go back... Do yourself a favor: take a break from the mundane hustle & bustle and satiate your senses with a sublime stay today.
